Inexperienced much? I think so.

So, I'm new to this. I'm inexperienced, scared, and desperately in need of some writing friends. You know, someone who can maybe guide me, make me not want to curl up in a corner somewhere with a bottle of vodka....
Writing is my passion. I have a feeling it's the one that's going to stick. But I'm still in college, with English as my major and Writing as my minor. I've currently finished a 93,000-word novel called First Light (it's a young adult/romance/fiction) and have already started on the second to its series. But I haven't won anything, barely have time to join anything, much less the money since I'm college-bound, and when it comes to credentials...? Well, I have none for my query letters, though I have already submitted two (I know, not very many at all). You could say I'm feeling pretty down about myself.
Any advice?

Thumbs up, for now.
-Caroline.

  1. Yep, stop feeling down on yourself! You have a finished novel!! Do you know how ahead of the game you already are? Many aspiring writers never even get that far. And to have completed it while you are in school is an amazing accomplishment - believe me, I know, I've tried it :)

Don't worry about the credentials for your query. Most of us don't have them. Sure, they help, but having them won't guarantee you get published and not having them isn't an automatic rejection. There are a lot of authors out there who didn't have a credential to their name when they sold their first book. If your book is good, it will sell itself.

If you are looking for a great writing community, I'd recommend the forum at Querytracker.net. I have met some of my closest writer friends on that site. The people there are wonderful, helpful, and just fun to talk to :) And there is a lot of help for writing your query or just general support for when you send them out and you are chewing your nails waiting for responses.

So, here's my advice - don't worry about anything but your story. Just write. The rest will take care of itself eventually :)
